Position Summary:The University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) Goose Lake Campus is located in Anchorage, Alaska. The attractive wooded campus, at the foot of the Chugach Mountains, serves as a cultural hub for the city. Duties:

10Coordinates clinical equipment repairs and/or service: - Contacts and arranges maintenance or repair with applicable parties. - Troubleshoots equipment when possible. - Accomplishes minor repairs to include changing light bulbs on clinic chairs. - Ensures and documents annual oil change on compressors. - Monitors and orders nitrous oxide and other gases as needed.Essential

10Ensures compliance with safety requirements: - Monitors proper infection control procedures utilized by the students, employees, and consultants to ensure patient and student safety. - Ensures employees and students adhere to OSHA compliance requirements. - Maintains and updates MSDS files and Chemical logs. - Provides MSDS briefings to employees, consultants, and students. - Maintains MSDS documentation for all personnel within the dental clinic.Essential

15Other Duties: - Coordinates with Dental Faculty and Staff to ensure supplies and equipment are available for the Hygiene Western Regional Examining Board. - Assists with the monitoring and testing of clinical water for microorganisms. - Responsible for Dental Clinic Laundry. - Covers front desk as needed. - Communicates issues pertaining to equipment/facility/supplies with Dental Faculty and Staff. - Attends meetings, training, and briefings as required by the SOAH director. - Adheres to FERPA and/or HIPAA requirements. - Performs other related duties as assigned.Essential

20Maintains accounting paperwork for supplies/equipment ordered on a monthly basis: - Reconciles monthly purchases with billing statements. - Reconciles billing statements with SOAH business office manager.Essential

20Orders equipment and supplies: - Maintains and orders clinical supplies and equipment for the Dental Clinics. - Orders supplies and kit items for all classes, labs, and clinics as needed. - Purchases consumables such as paper towels, trash bags, and any other items as needed.Essential

25Maintains, monitors, and supports equipment and processes: - Run regular spore test on all sterilizers. - Cleans sterilizing units at least monthly and as needed. - Monitor sterilizing process during clinics. - Assists Dental Hygiene/Dental Assisting faculty in processing instruments to include wrapping and sterilizing. - Ensures the sterilizers are turned-off at the end of the workday or notifies any remaining faculty members the units must be turned-off.Essential

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Must be a certified dental assistant or registered dental hygienist.

  • Knowledge of current infection control procedures, blood borne pathogens, OSHA regulations, MSDS requirements, and dental materials.

Required Experience:

  • Two years relevant experience.

  • Experience with dental software such as Patient Management.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Experience working with budgets.

  • Maintain dental credentials.

Education/Training:

  • Graduation from a certified dental assisting program and two years relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

  • Associate's degree and dental assistant certification is preferred.
