Calista Corporation Drilling Superintendent in Anchorage, Alaska
JOB SUMMARY: The Drilling Superintendent is responsible for the direct on-site supervision and execution of one or more construction/drilling projects. This position is responsible for implementing project and corporate safety policies, managing crew, interaction with the project owner/representative, ensuring compliance with the plans, specifications and permits, monitoring budget, updating schedule, tracking quantities, and generating daily reports.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: • Work with the Estimator, Project Manager and Project Engineers to plan activities required for project construction/drilling. • Manage on-site crew, including craft employees, engineers, and support staff. • Coordinate with dispatcher to assign workers to project sites. • Responsible for on-site safety, conformance with safety policies, site-specific safety plan and OSHA/MSHA regulations. • Manage subcontractors. Review subcontractor’s daily reports and ensure conformance to plans, specifications and subcontract conditions. • Prepare and maintain project reports including cost schedules and daily work progress, such as production notes, delays, conflicts, owner interaction, subcontractor interaction, safety compliance, and environmental or quality issues. • Maintain current project schedule and project completion documentation and communicate this information to the Project Manager on a regular basis. • Assist project manager with cost-to-complete and revenue forecasts monthly. • Ensure materials, supplies and tools are ordered and scheduled. • Ensure execution of the project follows company policy and contract specifications. • Rotate with field personnel (SSHO, CQC, Drillers, and Drillers Assistants) as necessary to allow R&R if needed and as scheduled. • Represent company in project meetings. • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner. • Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY FUNCTIONS: This position is responsible for oversight and supervision of project personnel.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES: • Experienced leader with appropriate industry experience and ability to work with subordinates with diverse backgrounds and skill levels. • Proven knowledge of project scheduling, subcontracts, submittals, quality control and safety. • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, to deal effectively with a variety of interpersonal relationships and situations. • Ability to read and interpret project plans and specifications. • Ability to perform basic math, evaluate data, compile statistics, and prepare reports with visual aids. • Ability to perform under deadlines and adjust work schedule to meet goals. • Knowledge of and ability to utilize computer and standard business applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Project, and other related applications. • Ability to use general office equipment such as fax, phone, copier, etc. • Ability to work in a team environment. • Ability to operate a motor vehicle in a safe and efficient manner. • Ability to travel to and work in remote locations for extended periods of time.
QUALIFICATIONS: • High School diploma or equivalent required. • Minimum ten years’ experience in mining, construction, or oilfield project management; Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction management may be considered in lieu of experience. • Experience in remote project locations required. • MSHA New Miner certification or the ability to obtain within 30 days of hire required. • Experience with firm fixed pricing contracts preferred. • Experience with Autodesk Civil 3D, HCSS HeavyBid, HCSS HeavyJob, Primavera P6 software preferred. • OSHA 30-hour certification and NSTC badging preferred. • Valid state driver’s license and be qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of the Company’s Driving Policy required. • Ability to pass a drug, driving, and background screening.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The majority of the work of this position (50%-90%) will be spent in the field, while 10%-50% will be in the corporate office. Field work requires travel to remote locations via small planes, boats, and vehicles. Field work may require extended time living remotely at job sites. Accommodations may be rustic.
