Calista Corporation Intern-Transcriber/Translator in Anchorage, Alaska
JOB SUMMARY This position participates in Calista’s 10-week Summer Internship Program from May 24, 2018 - August 3, 2018.
The Transcriber/Translator Intern transcribes and translates Elder texts and stories, updates website, and provides general support to the Calista Education and Culture staff.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Greet and assist customers; with excellent customer service.
Utilize Microsoft Office Suite Programs: Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
Transcribe and translate Elder’s texts and stories.
Study Yup’ik orthography (reading and writing).
Add information as directed to the Atlas website, including text, audio and videos.
Create, copy, fax, organize and file office documents as needed.
Work with hard copy and electronic documents and send and receive emails.
Provide basic administrative and clerical support.
Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
Performs other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
Work requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
Considerable knowledge of personal computer use, including word processing and spreadsheet programs.
Ability to motivate teams to produce quality materials within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects.
Ability to participate in and facilitate group meetings.
Work requires willingness to work a flexible schedule.
Ability to work in a Native Corporation multi-business environment.
Ability to operate a motor vehicle in a safe and efficient manner.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Currently enrolled in a college or vocational degree program and attending classes on a full-time basis.
Must possess a GPA of at least 2.0, and be in good academic standing.
Fluent in the Yup’ik language, in both reading and writing.
Valid current Alaska Driver’s License with good driving record preferred.
Ability to pass a background and drug screening.
