Calista Corporation Intern-Workforce/Shareholder Development in Anchorage, Alaska

JOB SUMMARY This position participates in Calista’s 10-week Summer Internship Program from May 24, 2018-August 3, 2018.

The Workforce and Shareholder Development Intern is responsible for working with the workforce and shareholder development team in workforce planning with our employees and Shareholders. This position will learn how to assist in various programs, including mentorship and internship programs.


Customer Service

  • Work with outside agencies within Alaska and the Calista region to locate training/education facilities.

  • Address and respond to inquiries from Shareholders / Descendants regarding training opportunities and job postings.

  • Follow up with Shareholders/ Descendants to ensure quality service.

Training and Organization

  • Assist in training coordination, communication, and presentations of the Calista Workforce & Development team.

  • Learn and understand the basic principles and procedures for recruitment, selection, and training.

  • Assist to create presentation materials.

Social Media and Marketing

  • Monitor and post social media recruitment materials to ensure Regional coverage of marketing outreach.

  • Produce numerous marketing materials such as ads, brochures, web-related materials, etc. with assistance from Supervisor.

  • Assist in short video creation to promote Calista’s Workforce & Shareholder Development programs and initiatives.

File and Data Management

  • Assist with data entry into spreadsheets, Access, and various data systems.

  • Maintain effective filing system to support programs.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position has no supervisory responsibilities.


  • Work requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Considerable knowledge of personal computer use, including word processing and spreadsheet programs.

  • Ability to learn Microsoft Access.

  • Ability to motivate teams to produce quality materials within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects.

  • Ability to follow instructions and work under constant supervision.

  • Ability to participate in and facilitate group meetings.

  • Knowledge of social media sites Facebook and LinkedIn.

  • Work requires willingness to work a flexible schedule.

  • Ability to work in a Native Corporation multi-business environment.

  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle in a safe and efficient manner.


  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Currently enrolled in a college or vocational degree program and attending classes on a full-time basis.

  • Currently enrolled in Business program or similar degree program or courses preferred.

  • Must possess a GPA of at least 2.0 and be in good academic standing.

  • Valid current Alaska Driver’s License with good driving record preferred.

  • Ability to pass a background and drug screening.

  • Ability to speak Yup’ik preferred.

Calista Corporation has a fast-paced multi-tasking office environment requiring a high degree of efficient and effective performance. At times, work is performed outside of the office at indoor and outdoor job sites. Adaptability regarding schedule and design changes.
