The primary responsibility of the Mechanical Assistant – Steam and Gas is to safely accomplish the installation, maintenance and repair of the heavy rotating machinery used mainly in power generation applications. Mechanical Assistants receive direction from

Lead or Sr. Turbine Mechanics and may work closely with Craft Labor Supervisors, EHS personnel, and the Operations Department to achieve these goals.

These positions are for work in the US and are for Legally authorized to work in the US candidates. You must be able to pass a drug test and background check. Some of the physical requirements of this position are traveling / field service job that requires

you to be able to be away from home for extended periods of time, shift work, the ability to lift safely a minimum of 50 pounds, perform physical work-related activities, and wear personal safety protection equipment (PPE).


  • Read blueprints, schematic drawings and technical documentation to determine proper work procedures

  • Install machinery and equipment according to layout plans, blueprints and other drawings in industrial establishments possibly under the direction of a Lead or Senior Turbine Mechanic.

  • Dismantle and assemble machinery and equipment using a variety of hand, power, pneumatic and hydraulic tools

  • Move machinery and equipment using hoists, cranes, chainfalls and trucks

  • Align machinery and equipment using hoists, squares, rules, micrometers, plumb bobs, dial indicators and/or laser alignment equipment

  • Perform material and machine inspections using precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, rules, calipers, protractors, and torque wrenches

  • Load, transport, and unload materials, tools, equipment and supplies

  • Perform minor maintenance or cleaning of tools and equipment

  • May take direction from a Lead or Senior Turbine MechanicKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong mechanical/technical skills

  • Strong oral communication skills

  • Critical thinking ability

  • Must be able to handle time-sensitive tasks and maintain a schedule within operationally challenging environments

  • Must work well both independently and in a team environment

  • Must be able to travel

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds

  • Must be able to walk/stand upright for periods of up to 12 hours

  • Must be able to bend, squat and climb stairs/ladders (occasionally to frequently)

  • Must be able to work on equipment located at or above shoulder level

  • May be required to wear personal protective equipmentEDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Must possess a demonstrated mechanical aptitude

  • Must have reliable transportation

  • Must possess minimum required hand tools
