Position Summary:This position is an Office Assistant for the Department of Residence Life, Student Assistant C Labor Pool, at the University of Alaska Anchorage.
10Marketing, Graphic Design & Publicity: Work with peer Office Assistants as a team to manage social media presence, including special interest posts, academic deadlines and other campus partnerships via Facebook. Provide content updates to Residence Life and UAA SafeZone websites. Oversee printing service for paraprofessional and professional Residence Life staff. Produce graphic design projects as requested using design software. Projects may include print projects such as 8.5 x 11” and 11 x 17” fliers, bookmarks, door hangers, labels and stickers, as well as large format posters, as well as web and social media content.Essential
10Support Departmental Partnerships: Facilitate and support Housing, Residence Hall Association and UAA SafeZone efforts throughout the academic year as requested. This may include outreach to residents and special projects as directed.Essential
25Administrative Support: Responsible for providing clerical and administrative support for the department and for special projects and / or committees as directed by the Office Manager. Support Office Manager with fiscal and administrative clerical tasks including spreadsheet creation and data entry, documenting purchases, and assisting with filing. 40Program Supply & Equipment Checkout & Calendaring: Provide support to professional staff (8), Resident Advisors (35), and Community Assistants, Residential Academic Coaches and Cama-i Room Peer Mentors (16), as well as Welcome Week committee members with program supply shopping, preparation, departmental vehicle and equipment checkout. Maintain and keep office, resource room and program kitchen stocked, organized, and clean and clutter-free for multiple staff usage.Essential
5Customer Service/Point of Contact: Serve as first point of public administrative contact for students, staff, faculty, parents/legal guardians and the general public; which includes answering telephones, handling walk-in traffic, and administrative support. Greet each guest and monitor access to the office. STUDENT OFFICE ASSISTANT
The Department of Residence Life is actively recruiting for student office assistants (OA) to assist in providing administrative support to Residence Life, On-Campus Living, and the UAA SafeZone program. The successful candidate will work with a team of fellow office assistants to provide office coverage during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, while providing support to the 7 professional staff and 39 student staff who serve on-campus residents. We are looking for creative, energetic, and enthusiastic staff who enjoy working with graphic design, social media and administrative tasks in a fun and supportive work environment.
The Department of Residence Life supports on-campus housing for 900+ residents and works in partnership with University Housing and Dining Services as On-Campus Living. Our program provides leadership training, experiential training, awareness of diverse lifestyles and cultures, co-curricular programs and activities (educational and social), and behavioral accountability. Residence Life’s student development approach focuses on enriching each student’s higher education experiences by delivering high quality, student-centered programs and services.
UAA SafeZone is a campus-wide program designed to increase the overall campus community's understanding and awareness of issues faced by gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, allies (GLBTQA+) and other marginalized persons. SafeZone offers a visible message of inclusion, support, and advocacy through ally trainings, train-the-trainer courses, and events that take participants through a variety of activities aimed at expanding horizons and cultivating thought.
