This position is represented by the Public Employees Local 71 and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and Public Employees Local 71. If the person selected is not affiliated with the Public Employees, Local 71 (L71), he or she must become a member in good standing and provide a dispatch prior to the start date.

DEPARTMENT: Eagle River Parks & Recreation

HOURS OF WORK: Schedule is either 6:00 am to 3:00 pm; or 8:00 am to 5:00 pm with Monday through Sunday coverage

LOCATION: 12001 Business Boulevard, Suite 123, Eagle River, Alaska

This is a full-time, seasonal position with an anticipated start date of April 30, 2018 and end-date of September 9, 2018 and October 23, 2018.

Example of Duties:

Maintain parks, sports facilities, outdoor recreation facilities, trails and municipal owned grounds, including the cleaning of park restrooms. Perform turf maintenance including irrigation, mowing, aeration, seeding, sodding, thatching, trimming and fertilization. Perform litter collection, ball field maintenance, park equipment and grounds repairs including park signs, barriers and fences. Maintain bike and ski/hiking trails including brush clearing and black top or concrete repair. Some carpentry, painting and other tasks as assigned. Some snow removal may apply depending on weather conditions. General labor with heavy lifting anticipated daily in all weather conditions. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences:

Six (6) months experience in lawn, landscape, trails, construction, grounds, or facility maintenance.

Must possess a valid State of Alaska Driver's License by the time of hire.

Preferences:

Prefer applicants with knowledge and experience in operating various types of maintenance equipment and tools.

Additional Important Information:

These positions involve physical activity and frequently requires lifting or carrying objects weighing more than fifty (50) pounds.

If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of a copy of the applicant's Alaska Driver's License and a current copy of his/her Department of Motor Vehicle driving record, including a driving record from previous states if the Alaskan driver's license was first issued within one year prior to application, documenting an acceptable driving history. As a condition of employment, the person selected must provide a Notice of Good Standing Form from the Public Employees, Local 71 Union by the time of hire.

If selected for hire, the appointment in this position will be conditional based upon a satisfactory Municipal Employment Office conducted Background Check. A Background Check encompasses criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment.
